Murray State College Nursing Professor Bobbi LaFevers, MSN, RN, has been named Professor Emeritus. She has been part of the Murray family since 1995, when she obtained an associate of applied science degree in nursing.

Her journey as a full-time faculty member in the nursing program at Murray State began in the fall of 2008 to October 2009. She returned as a faculty member in December 2013.

In 2014, she earned a Master of Science in Nursing Education from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center-College of Nursing. LaFevers’ healthcare career has offered diverse experiences, from working in rural hospitals to serving as a traveling public health nurse with the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

LaFevers reached a significant milestone in August 2019 by achieving tenure and advancing to assistant professor. In 2023, she was promoted to associate professor.  She served as an adjunct instructor alongside her full-time employment at Murray State from August to December 2013 and 2020 to 2023.

“Known for her unwavering kindness and support, Bobbi has always been a pillar of encouragement for students and staff,” said Becky Henthorn, Murray State College Provost. “Her legacy of compassion and mentorship will continue to inspire us all as she takes on the distinguished title of Professor Emeritus.”

For more than a decade, she had the privilege of imparting her knowledge and enthusiasm for nursing education to Murray State students. LaFevers attributes the collaborative atmosphere among the nursing faculty and staff to further enhancing her joy for the program.

“Bobbi’s guidance has been invaluable to many new faculty members, and her presence will be deeply missed,” said Malaika Horton, Murray State College Dean of Nursing. “Bobbi’s ability to inspire and support her colleagues has fostered a collaborative and nurturing environment within the nursing department.”

LaFevers is best known among her peers as a mentor and leader. She is always willing to share her knowledge and expertise.

As a first-generation college student, LaFevers takes pride in her accomplishments and aims to set an example for the students and her peers as a proponent of lifelong learning. She retired in July 2024 but aspires to eventually return to teaching in some form, whether as an online instructor, in a traditional classroom setting or a combination of both.

“This recognition of Bobbi reflects her unwavering dedication to teaching and academic success,” said Dr. Tim Faltyn, Murray State College. “Her commitment to our students, faculty, staff and college community inspires all who have worked alongside her.”

LaFevers is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in nursing education from Oklahoma City University – Kramer School of Nursing.
