Murray State College recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation of the historic Tishomingo Armory, which will soon become the new home of the Murray State College Wrestling Program.
Originally built nearly 90 years ago, the Armory is being transformed into a state-of-the-art practice and competition facility – continuing the college’s legacy of growth and innovation.
“Wrestling is one of the oldest and most respected sports in the world,” said Paul Mayfield, Murray State College Wrestling Head Coach. “The addition of men's and women's wrestling marks an exciting new chapter for Murray State College athletics.”
Revitalizing the building while giving our student-athletes a space to grow and compete is special.
“As a Board of Regents, we work to make the best decisions possible for improving the student experience and creating growth opportunities,” said Regent Leslie Larsen, Board of Regents Chair.
The Armory renovation is one of more than six construction projects currently underway across Murray State’s Ardmore and Tishomingo campuses — all aimed at increasing opportunities for students and strengthening the college’s future.
“Coach Mayfield’s vision for the program is simple but bold – we’re creating something that will last,” said Dr. Tim Faltyn, Murray State College President. “This program isn’t just about developing great athletes; it's about shaping confident leaders in the classroom, their communities and in life.”
