The Murray State College Shotgun Team competed in the ACUI College Clay Target National Championship in San Antonio, Texas. The Aggies dominated the competition, leading from wire to wire to take home the national championship trophy in three categories.

“This season was a true team effort, with several student-athletes rising to the occasion when it mattered most,” said Scott Robertson, Murray State College Shotgun Team Coach. Our goal was to become national champions within three years, and the team achieved it in two. I couldn’t be prouder of their dedication and success.”

The shotgun teams are separated into four divisions. Division IV is reserved for junior colleges with a shotgun team. After shooting Monday through Wednesday, the team had to wait the next few days to determine if they would retain the top spot or if another junior college team would upstage them.

“This is an extraordinary achievement for our student-athletes, Coach Robertson and Murray State College,” said Brandon Bowling, Murray State College Athletic Director. “Winning a national championship is a rare and historic moment that cements their place in the legacy of Murray State College.”

The Murray State College Shotgun Team won the Division IV title in the following categories: Classic All-Around Team, Sporting Clay and Super Sport.  Team members Tate Boyd, Layton Freas, Hayden Hilliary, Hunter Miller and Connor Perkins won the Sporting Clay competition.

“When Murray State chose to invest in a world-class shotgun program and coach, we knew the return on investment would be something we could all be proud of,” said Dr. Tim Faltyn, Murray State College President. “Our priority has always been to provide the best academic experience for our student-athletes. This achievement goes even further, creating lifelong memories, a lasting impact and greater confidence for the students and their families.”
