The Student Success Center offers opportunities for informative and instructional learning focused on teaching specialized skills or exploring a particular subject in the form of workshops.  Please contact David Brantley or Christy Green if you are interested in attending a workshop or have any questions.

The following workshops are currently scheduled:

WritePlacer Workshop

Qualifications are scoring a 16-18 on the English component of the ACT or a 4 on your most recent WritePlacer.
January 2018.  Another workshop will be offered for the upcoming semesters with dates to be decided.
This workshop is a 3-day intensive workshop designed primarily to prepare students to successfully retake the WritePlacer exam.  If a student passes the exam, they are no longer required to take Foundation courses for English.  It will also provide students with a short, but thorough, training in essential skills needed for success in collegiate writing, including:
    • Prewriting Techniques
    • Outlining
    • Grammar and Mechanics
    • Utilizing Common Resources
    • Proofreading Strategies
Each day consists of 2 sessions per day (morning and afternoon) with a lunch break in between. Each session will be 3-4 hours long. The morning sessions will run from 8 a.m.- 12 p.m., and the afternoon sessions will run from 1 PM - 5 PM. The final session of the workshop will consist of taking the WritePlacer exam. Along with the 12-1 lunch hour, students can expect multiple breaks during sessions.  Lunch will be provided by the Student Success Center.
