Public invited to presentation of Oklahoma and Murray State College history on November 3


Award-winning writer-historian Rusty Williams will join MSC Professor Dr. Kirk Rodden for a presentation of Murray State College history on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. in MSC Tishomingo’s campus center.  The presentation is part of the college’s week-long homecoming celebration, and the public is invited to attend.

Rodden and Williams will offer an historical perspective on former Oklahoma Governor William H. “Alfalfa Bill” Murray for whom Murray State College was named. Williams, author of The Red River Bridge War:  A Texas-Oklahoma Border Battle will also discuss issues surrounding Alfalfa Bill’s long-running feud with Texas over access to the Red River Bridge.

The Red River Bridge War:  A Texas-Oklahoma Border Battle won the 2017 Oklahoma Book Award and was named Outstanding Book on Oklahoma History for 2016 by the Oklahoma Historical Society.

Williams is a former journalist who has written for the Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, San Antonio Express-News and the Associated Press.  He is also the author of My Old Confederate Home:  A Respectable Place for Civil War Veterans.
