7/18/2016

Murray State College Baseball Coach Zach Crabtree has been named head coach for this year’s National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Team which will compete against other elite amateur teams July 29-August 13, 2016, in the 82nd National Baseball Congress (NBC) World.  The tournament will be played at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita, Kan. which has hosted the event since 1935.

Team members, representing 22 colleges from 11 states across all three divisions of NJCAA baseball, and coaches will be in residence at Murray State College in Tishomingo, Okla., from July 27 to August 3 where they will participate in practice sessions and exhibition games in preparation for the national event.

The national team, which features some of the best two-year college players from across the country including NJCAA All-Americans, NJCAA Marucci Elite Hitters, ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award® winners, national champions and NCAA DI signees, has never before practiced in Oklahoma, and 2016 is only the second time a USA team has been housed on a college campus.

Crabtree, head baseball coach for Murray State College since 2010, lead the Aggies to their first national championship in 2013.  In 2014, he served as an assistant on the NJCAA National Team that played in the NBC World Series.

"It is an honor and a privilege to be chosen by my peers to represent the NBC and the National Junior College Athletic Association. It all goes back to the talented and hardworking players I have coached over the last six years. Because of them and their accomplishments, I have this opportunity. Anytime you can be on the field with USA across your chest, it's an honor," said Coach Crabtree.

Joining Crabtree on the staff are Northwest Florida State head coach Doug Martin, Tyler head coach Doug Wren, South Florida State head coach Rick Hitt and Florida Southwestern State assistant athletic director George Sanders.

“We could not be more pleased to host this year’s National Baseball Series squad at Murray State College and are anxious to welcome this outstanding group of players and coaches to Oklahoma and to our beautiful campus,” said Murray State College President Joy McDaniel.

“It is an incredible honor for Zach Crabtree to be selected as coach for this impressive team, and we are expecting big wins in Wichita,” McDaniel added.

The national team will play an exhibition double header at Murray State College in Tishomingo on Saturday, July 30, starting at 4 p.m.  On Sunday, July 31, the team will play a single exhibition game beginning at 2 p.m.  There is a $5 admission fee for exhibition games.
