Murray State College Invites Alumni to Campus for Homecoming

Murray State College students are celebrating Homecoming all week and have invited alumni to join in the fun on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5.  All events will take place in Tishomingo and are open the public.

Beginning on Friday at 9 a.m., nursing students will hold their yearly silent auction in the campus center.  Nursing students will also be on hand in the student center to check visitors’ blood pressure and sanitize cell phones from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At 11:30 a.m. on Friday, the MSC Alumni Association will induct distinguished members into the hall of fame.  This year’s honorees are MSC President Joy McDaniel, Mr. John Thompson of Fort Worth, Texas, and the late Pat Taylor.  Cost for the luncheon ceremony is $25 per person.

On Friday evening, alumni athletes will host and participate in a home run derby at The Ranch on Tishomingo’s campus.  The event begins at 8 p.m. and is open to the public.

Events begin on Saturday with a 10 a.m. ceremony in Fletcher auditorium to induct honorees into the college’s athletic hall of fame.  This year’s inductees are the late Haskell Lucas, Mr. Tucker Alexander, Mr. UL Washington, and the 2013 National Championship Baseball Team.

At 12 noon, there will be an alumni baseball game at the MSC Ranch baseball complex, and at 1 p.m. softball alumni will play in a game against this year’s student softball team. 

At 2 p.m., the alumni association will host a tailgate party for its membership. The alumni VIP event is free for those 21 and older with paid memberships.  Annual memberships at $25 or lifetime memberships at $100 may be purchased at the event.

The Homecoming king and queen will be crowned at 4 p.m. during a pre-game ceremony in the MSC Gym.  The coronation will be followed by women’s basketball at 5:30 p.m. against Hill College.

The Shaina Settlemires Memorial Ranch Rodeo begins at 6:30 p.m., with proceeds going to the Murray State College Foundation for veterinary technology scholarships.  The rodeo will take place at the MSC Arena.  The Vet Tech program will be hosting a continuing education class in dentistry during the day on November 5 in addition to participating in the evening’s rodeo event.
