Murray State College Invites Alumni and Friends to Participate in Homecoming Activities

Murray State College has announced plans for its annual homecoming and alumni week which will take place October 31-November 5, 2016.

Student-centered activities throughout the week include scavenger hunts, costume contests, and nightly games on campus.  Activities for students, alumni and friends of the college begin on Friday, November 4 and continue throughout Saturday, November 5.

“We are expecting a large turnout this year as alumni and friends return to celebrate homecoming at Murray State College,” MSC President Joy McDaniel said.

“The college opened its doors 108 years ago, and we have so many successes to celebrate.  From successes of individual graduates to successes of athletic teams and academic programs, it’s clear to see the impact Murray State College has had on our communities,” McDaniel said.

The weekend kicks off at 9 a.m. Friday morning November 4 with the nursing program’s yearly silent auction.  The auction, which lasts until 3 p.m., will be located in Tishomingo’s MSC Campus Center.

At 11:30 a.m. on Friday, alumni will gather for their yearly luncheon to recognize graduates and friends of Murray State College who will be inducted to the Hall of Fame.  This year’s honorees are MSC President Joy McDaniel, John Thompson, and the late Pat Taylor, former MSC coach who will be recognized as a distinguished former faculty member. Cost of this event is $25 per person.

On Saturday, November 5, guests will gather at 10 a.m. in Fletcher Auditorium to recognize inductees to the college’s Distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame.  This year’s inductees are the late Haskell Lucas, Tucker Alexander, U.L. Washington, and the 2013 National Championship Baseball Team.

After the induction ceremony, baseball alumni and current players will compete in a game at 12 noon.   Former softball players will challenge current team members in an alumni game beginning at 1 p.m.

For the first time, there will be a special tailgate party for alumni leading up to the evening’s crowning of the college homecoming king and queen.  Members of the alumni association, ages 21 and over,
