Murray State College Hires Durant’s Aaron Mullens as Head Softball Coach
The Murray State College Athletic Department has announced the hiring of new Head Softball Coach Aaron Mullens. Mullens will replace Marie Stone who has accepted a coaching position with Texas A&M-Texarkana.
“We are extremely excited to name Aaron Mullens as the new softball coach at Murray State College. He comes to us after a very successful career at the high school level that included a 5A state runner-up finish this past fall at Durant High School,” MSC Athletic Director Zach Crabtree said.
“Coach Mullens has a vision and a plan and is committed to winning and finding ways to win. He has amazing levels of passion and energy that will take our softball program to the next level, and I look forward to helping Coach Mullens and our Lady Aggies reach new heights,” Crabtree added.
For the past six and a half years, Mullens has served as the head softball coach for Durant High School in Durant, Okla. Prior to coaching in Durant, he served as the assistant baseball and softball coach at Madill High School for two years and as a Spanish teacher at Pottsboro High School for one year.
“His successful record as a coach, his dedication to teaching Spanish, his commitment to student success and his genuine interest in seeing players advance are qualities we embrace at Murray State College. We have found a wonderful addition to our athletic department in Aaron Mullens,” MSC President Joy McDaniel said.
Mullens is a native of Durant and a 2003 graduate of Durant High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Spanish Education and a master’s in Education Administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
“I look forward to this new chapter in my career and the challenge of coaching college-level athletes. My goal for the MSC softball program is to help all my players transfer to four-year universities after their time at Murray State College. I feel my job as a coach is to help student athletes reach their full potential by continuing their education and softball careers,” Mullens said.
Mullens will officially begin his duties as softball coach of the MSC Lady Aggies in January 2017.
