MSC Softball Sweeps North Arkansas for Regional Championship


The Murray State College softball team swept the North Arkansas College Pioneers at home on Friday, April 22. The Lady Aggies were named the NJCAA Region II Champions and will compete in the district tournament in Topeka, Kansas from May 6 through May 8.

Game one ended in a 9-1 victory for the Lady Aggies in five innings with an eight-run rule. Kayla Mitchell and Shelby Wilson both hit home runs for MSC.

Audrey Simpson pitched four strong innings and struck out five batters. Simpson was also valuable at the plate, singling in the second inning and tripling in the fourth.

The second game of the afternoon ended in a 14-3 victory for MSC with another eight-run rule. Kayla Mitchell and Sydnee Hinkle earned home runs for the Aggies, with Hinkle hitting two. Kira Head pitched four innings and struck out four batters.

MSC will play North Central Texas College in Gainesville, Texas on Thursday, April 28 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
