MSC faculty and artist Sharon Burris has exhibit at Champion Public Library

Ardmore’s Champion Public Library, part of the Southern Oklahoma Library System, will feature an exhibit of photo composites on metal by Murray State College faculty member and local artist Sharon Burris during the months of April and May. The exhibit, on display in the meeting room during regular library hours, is the first to be selected for presentation following completion of the library’s recent remodeling project.

The library and meeting room (unless reserved) are open Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.  The library closes at 5 p.m. on Fridays and is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Southern Oklahoma Library System serves over 97,000 citizens across five counties with eight libraries located in Ardmore, Atoka, Davis, Healdton, Marietta, Sulphur, Tishomingo and Wilson.

“We congratulate Sharon Burris on selection of her artwork to be exhibited in Ardmore at the Champion Public Library.  Her creativity and vision play a part in all she does, and her work is outstanding,” MSC President Joy McDaniel said.

The exhibit by Burris was selected for presentation by Champion Public Library Circulation Coordinator Rudy Ellis for its contemporary style and unique medium.

“Sharon Burris is an outstanding artist with a spectacular eye for photography.  The florals in this collection have a sparkling quality, and the contemporary style of this exhibit matches the Champion Public Library environment very well.  I’d encourage everyone to see these beautiful works of art,” Ellis said.

Champion Public Library is located at 601 Railway Express in Ardmore behind Two Frogs Restaurant on South Holiday Drive. From Interstate 35 use Exit 31-A.

“As both a writer and photographer, I want my works to engage the viewer both aesthetically and psychologically. If my artwork does not pull in the viewer for a prolonged look, or “conversation,” it is not serving my purpose,” Burris said.
