MSC Earns Season Opener Win over Paris

TISHOMINGO, Okla. (February 4, 2016) – New stadium lights put the spotlight on Aggie baseball at MSC Monday night, February 1, during the team’s season opener against Paris Junior College. The MSC Aggies, ranked number eight (#8) in preseason rankings, scored a 15-5 victory (10-run rule) over Paris Junior College in the first home night game in Murray State College history.

Starting pitcher Dillon Lawrence threw five strong innings for the Aggies with two hits and one earned run.

Hitting, with 18 in all, was the key component to the Aggies victory. MSC totaled the night with four home runs, hit by sophomore Cade Carter, sophomore Fernando Garcia, sophomore Luke Jones and sophomore Marten Pauwels.

Murray State College made the first appearance on the scoreboard with runs from freshman Austin Ferguson and Marten Pauwels in the bottom of the first inning.

MSC allowed zero runs for the Dragons in the third inning and earned seven runs for themselves, with home runs from Marten Pauwels and Cade Carter and runs from Austin Ferguson, freshman Austin Gilbert and Fernando Garcia.

MSC scored four runs in the seventh inning, with home runs from Luke Jones and Fernando Garcia and runs from Chandler Robertson and freshman Connor Duer. This was the final inning of the contest, due to the 10-run rule.

Murray State baseball will play their next game on the road at Costal Bend College in Beeville, Texas, on February 5 at 6 p.m.  They will battle Hill College at home on February 9 at 2 p.m.
