Mercy Agwaniru selected as NJCAA All-Star

Mercy AgwaniruThe NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association has announced the selection of Murray State College’s Mercy Agwaniru to participate in the 7th Annual NJCAA All-Star Weekend. Participants were selected by a committee of coaches from Division I, Division II, and Division III schools. Only the top forty athletes were chosen as all-stars.

MSC Head Women’s Basketball Coach Justin Cellum says Agwaniru was chosen to participate because of how she plays the game, and her defensive skill. “Mercy was a difference maker for us on the defensive end all season. She provided a shot blocking presence at the rim and really helped us control the boards most games. Coaches have seen her ability to control the game on that end and agreed she was worthy of a spot on the roster.”

Agwaniru came to MSC from Lagos, Nigeria last year. The 6’2” forward will be back in the Aggies uniform in the fall. Cellum says she has worked hard and improved as a player since her first day on campus.

“Mercy came in and displayed a willingness to learn and become a better player and student since the first day she arrived on campus,” says Cellum. “She has worked extremely hard since the season has ended to become more of a complete player and we are excited she will be given an opportunity to showcase her hard work in front of 4-year university coaches.”

Agwaniru and Cellum make the trip to Northwest Florida State College in Niceville, Florida for the NJCAA All-Star weekend July 24-27.
