Lady Aggies Sweep Vernon College


TISHOMINGO, Okla. (February 18, 2016) - The Murray State College softball team defeated the Vernon College Chaparrals in a doubleheader at home on Wednesday, February 17.

The Aggies had an early six-point lead in the first game of the afternoon and finished the contest with an 11-4 victory over the Chaparrals. Vernon finally scored in the fourth inning, but the Aggies held them to only four runs. Freshman Shelby Wilson scored a home run for the Aggies and recorded three RBIs. Freshman pitcher Kayla Mitchell pitched all seven innings for MSC and struck out three batters.

The second game of the afternoon was closely matched and was forced into an extra inning of play. Aggies won the neck-and-neck contest 4-3. Freshman Sydnee Hinkle scored a home run for MSC and recorded one RBI. Freshman pitcher Audrey Simpson pitched eight innings for the Aggies, allowing three earned runs and striking out two batters.

The Lady Aggies will stay home and play Paris Junior College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 20.
